Micro Link Weft - My Favourite Hair Extension Type

Who of us hasn’t spent inordinate amounts of time having hair extensions put in our hair using glues and Keratin Bonds? This is usually followed by the dull headache - or not so dull - caused by so much hair being pulled around. Enter the Micro Link Weft - a simple solution to the problem.

Clipping part of tradional micro link extension process
I recently found a store that showed me a great alternative, the Micro Link Weft. Instead of fussing around positioning the weft, clipping it to strands of natural hair to keep it still and in the right position, then struggling to thread some weft hair and natural hair through the pesky little micro links which, let’s face it are tiny and can be awkward to hold and thread if you have longer nails, imagine an alternative scenario.

Micro Link Weft Application

Miss20 in South East London sells weft with ready-attached micro links. Typically set at a centimetre or so apart, they sit under the weft on the skin side; all you have to do is thread small amounts of natural hair through the links and crimp the metal link closed, so holding the hairpiece firmly in place.

Micro Link Weft - note the regular spacing of the micro links
Many people, when using micro links, sometimes also known as micro-beads, for quickness and ease of application only apply one at each end and one in the middle of the weft width. The problem with this approach is that achieving a straight line cut to your beautiful hair works initially but the natural pull of the weave downwards will quickly render what was a straight line into an undulating effect - not exactly what you are looking for. Not having to hold the micro links in place while you dextrously thread two lots of hair through them means that using 10 or more micro links becomes really viable. This is where Miss20 wins out. With the micro links in place, not only is the look more durable and stays in place longer, but it also means that the whole process is quicker to implement and causes less discomfort. This technique makes any lumps and bumps detectable using other clipping options a thing of the past.

So why would you use Micro Link Wefts in the first place?

Whether you want to achieve the ombre look or match a single colour scheme, these micro links are invisible under the hairpiece and so the need for matching micro link colours is no longer required. No matter how many layers you apply you don’t have to worry about glue being left in the hair, it’s a light weight clip technology that is readily bent open releasing the hair leaving no residues whatsoever. The result is that you barely feel its presence and is low maintenance - no solvents or special technology required to achieve great looks. They can be re-used, easily reset every 6 to 8 weeks, and the best bit is that the hairpiece can last up to 12 months! I reckon Micro Link Wefts are a great investment in anyone’s eyes.
