Keratin Bonds

Keratin Bonds are the original yet still massively popular way of extending hair. Keratin, the building blocks of both your hair and nails, is bonded to the living hair using a heat connector, a simple device that looks like a pair of pliers.

What is Keratin in The Keratin Bonds?

Keratin is a natural protein that is found in most animals, as well as in us where it exists and ‘grows’ out of our scalp and nails. Keratin Bonds are as small as a couple of grains of rice and once attached are a very discrete method of connecting the extension to your hair.

While the attachments are strong they are kind to the hair when attached properly because they grip firmly and don’t pull at the root. They are also easy to remove.

Maintaining Keratin Bonds

Generally the Keratin Bonds can last up to 12 months depending on the quality of the hair piece, remembering the old adage, ‘buy cheap, buy twice’. Your best approach to using hair extensions is to take advice from an experienced professional; with correct aftercare and maintenance you will look great for longer than you might think.

The Keratin Bonds have to be maintained every 2-3 months depending on how quick your natural hair grows and your own hair type. This is because the hair grows from the root, moving the Keratin Bonds further out, potentially allowing it to become visible.

The maintenance of the bonds is a longer process than the initial fitting as a full removal of the bonds is done before they are re-tipped by hand during the session and put back onto your own hair with the new Keratin Bonds. This method may be a longer process but the results achieved are simply amazing.
